Giorgio Occhipinti, not yet 50 years old, has record productions and
Concerts as valuable as many. Collaborations with musicians of the calibre of
Joelle Léandre and Vinny Golia, Evan Parker and Ernst Reijseger, are flanked by those
equally important with Stefano Maltese and Pino Minafra, Vincenzo Mazzone and Carlo
Actis Data. In addition to historical groups such as the December Thirty Jazz Trio (active since 1990) or
Hereo Nonetto (born 1994), the quartet remains one of the most important formations
in the strings of Occhipinti and Guarrella. Since 2004, year of publication of "Acrobats Folli e
In love with ", with the saxophone player Olivia Bignardi and drummer Antonio Moncada, this is
type of group has never been lacking among their projects, and the quartet has today itself
regenerated with the entrance in their place, respectively, Gianpiero Fronte and Emanuele
Spring. The new training, renamed Less of Five, makes its debut for our label
(it is the first time that Occhipinti leader with Caligola, but he was present as a pianist in the
Perfect Quintet of Branciamore) with a work of great thickness, long meditated, with a long time
how this "Chapter Two" is. A group formed by Sicilian musicians of high level and of
several generations who, if he has in the pianist his undisputed leader, find in the
double bass player - who signs two of the eight tracks on the album; the others are all from
Occhipinths - an equally important token. Although not far from Ornette Coleman
(Orange's smells, Rambling between the sound and the mind), Wayne Shorter (Breathing
New York's air) and from a certain free-jazz' 70s (Expression, Ebullition), the four musicians became
move freely and with great interplay in truly original territories, without for this reason
never lose the skein bandol, while always remaining anchored to the writing,
important as improvisation in the musical conception of Giorgio Occhipinti, who
here it is confirmed to be, if still needed, among the most authoritative protagonists
of jazz, not only Italian, in the last twenty years.
